Usually the best price on produce in the area. Tends to run out of green onion, zucchini, or fresh herbs...

Last evening, everyone in our home seemed to arrive late for dinner, so my granddaughter came in from outside and ate before the adults. Being a kid she started rapidly consuming the most perceived delicious items first, and BBQ chicken was at the top of her list. So she consumed about quarter the chicken when we, the adults sat down to join in. To our surprise, the chicken skin was dry, not soft as the fresh chicken skin and a food soiled smell was emanating from the parts closest to the neck and head. This smell would be similar to meat cooked two to three days earlier. So we stopped eating the chicken immediately and informed my granddaughter that there was something not right about this chicken.

I called the store and was told to bring the chicken back with the receipt. This morning I returned to the store with chicken in hand and no receipt as my wife said she left the receipt on the counter in a rush to leave the store and get home for dinner. So the girl at the counter informed me that as it appears that half the chicken was consumed she would give me a refund for half the value of the chicken and did not seem the least concerned that this chicken was unsuitable to be sold in the first place or questionable for human consumption.

The store looks great, but so did Ted Bundy (Theodore Robert Bundy), who wasn’t a nice guy when you peeled back the layers. Make sure you check the expiry dates on everything you buy from this store as if they are cutting corners; the special pricing may be the result of Best Before Date being altered or scratched off. For sure don’t buy any food prepared in-store or on the West Coast and sold under their label. Let’s hope it is a training issue or they will not be serving the citizens of Pickering for very long! I do not work in the grocery industry or have any affiliation to any of their suppliers. I am just a carnivore who ingested bad meat, had a bad experience and was dismissed when it was brought to the seller's attention.

My wife purchased a BBQ Chicken from them yesterday around 5 pm. Judging by the state of the chicken we have surmised that “Pacific Fresh” carries the meaning, “prepared and cooked on the West Coast and transported in an air vented unrefrigerated truck to Pickering where it was packed on July 12, 2017” (according to the label on the carryout box). The label states, “packed” not prepared or cooked, so by label definition alone, it could be days old!

The Supervisor at the Customer Service Desk appeared to be incapable of seeing the “big picture.” I wasn’t interested in getting a refund of $3.50, I was looking for, “I am sorry for your bad experience, I have no idea how this happened. I will advise my manager of the situation and give this leftover chicken to him/her to investigate what happened. If I can have your phone number, my manager will call you once he/she has concluded their investigation. We appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention and hope that the kids and anyone who consumed the chicken did not suffer from eating it”.

Sorry, the new guys in the old Canadian Tire store location are playing by a new rule book as a Loblaws, Sobeys, FreshCo, or No Frills’ employee would have taken ownership of the problem giving me an in-store credit or full refund with a sincere apology. Obviously, this did not play out as it should have. So in addition to this review posting, a call will be placed to the Durham Region Health Department as there could be a much bigger issue here, as in untrained staff or management cutting corners. Almost forgot that everyone who consumed the BBQ chicken did get diarrhea before midnight.

We have gotten spoiled in Pickering by the superb customer service provided by Loblaws Supercenter, Sobeys, FreshCo, No Frills somewhat Blue Sky and even our smallest convenience stores "trump" the customer service at our newest grocery venue Pacific Fresh Food Market.

One of our fav. places to shop. Good prices and clean store. They usually have the best prices on Juice, cereal/snakes and Milk. And they do price match. The store is kept very clean. Example, week of April 1st they had great price on Ice Tea and Toilet paper to name few deals...
